Village Palos Verdes

Homeowners Association

Election Results

The Village Palos Verdes Homeowners Association’s annual meeting was held on Thursday, October 9, 2009.  The primary purpose of this meeting was the election of three new board members.

Candidates for the three open board seats were Mark Bayma, Carma Hardin, Margie Hersh and Dave Silverberg.  After the ballots had been mailed, Juan Gregorio and Susan Dell distributed a flyer announcing their interest in serving on the board and asking that homeowners write their names on the ballot.

145 ballots were counted and votes were cast as follows:

Carma Hardin – 124

Dave Silverberg – 85*

Margie Hersh – 83

Mark Bayma – 76

Juan Gregorio – 32

Susan Dell - 22

Your 2008-2009 Board of Directors is comprised of:

President Carma Hardin

Vice President Joe Grasso

Treasurer Margie Hersh

Secretary Sandra Felando

Member at Large Dave Silverberg

*As you may recall, Dave Silverberg’s candidate statement read in part:  “I am running for the VPV Board under the assumption the vote for the assessment fails.  If voters approve the assessment then I will pay the assessment, respect the wishes of the voters, and drop my candidacy.”  Subsequent to learning that the vote for the special assessment had passed, Mr. Silverberg sent an email to Carma Hardin stating in part:  “I will be removing myself as a candidate for the Board out of respect for the homeowners who favor your project.  I will encourage all homeowners to back this project, now that the voters have given their approval, and not engage in legal shenanigans or any more fighting about this.  The voters have spoken.”  At the Annual Meeting, when the candidates were introduced, the Board fully anticipated that Mr. Silverberg would withdraw his candidacy.  He did not, and the ballots were counted.  When the election results were announced, Mr. Silverberg told the homeowners in attendance that he would accept his election.

Immediately following the Annual Meeting, the new Board met briefly to elect officers, discuss board protocol and set the next meeting date.  A motion was made, seconded and passed to request that Mr. Silverberg provide a written statement affirming his commitment to uphold his responsibilities as a board member, which could then be provided to the membership to offer assurance that he intends to serve the best interests of the community. Mr. Silverberg has since submitted a letter to the Board re-iterating that he will respect the homeowner who have voted in favor of the Exterior Renovation Project and “redirect my attention to making this project a success.  I look forward to working with you and moving forward.”

The Board wishes to acknowledge the contributions made by outgoing board members Mark Bayma and Mike Talbot.  Mike Talbot has served on the board since 2002, and Mark Bayma has served since 2006.  They have both dedicated countless hours over the course of the last two years to further the Exterior Renovation Project and well as general association business.  Their contributions are greatly appreciated.

Board meetings are held at 7:30 p.m. the second Thursday of each month at the Resurrection Lutheran Church, 330 Palos Verdes Blvd.  Homeowners are welcome to attend.
